No, I don’t craft…unless there is something in it for me.

The big thing here in the UK at Christmas time is the Advent calendar. Every day you get to open a little door in your calendar and get a small present. If you are lucky, the present will be chocolate. If you are like me, the present will be a bag of snowflake glitter.

Last week I opened my very first Advent calendar door and got a packet of glitter. Visions of glitter-strewn floors and me hoovering at 11pm flashed before my eyes. I wanted glitter about as much as I want a third baby…which is none at all.

The other mom in my group could not believe that I was willing to just give away the glitter. “Oh, we’ll have so much fun making crafts with this. Little E will be delighted! Are you sure you don’t want it,” she squealed. “Ugh (shivering in horror), no. you take it. I DON’T craft,” I responded.

And that is the truth. I don’t craft with my kids. I don’t need to craft with my kids. They spend five days a week at daycare and school crafting and bring home a mountain of evidence of their efforts. They are perfectly delighted to do non-craft things with me on the weekend. Everyone wins!

There is, however, one exception to my non-craft rule. Actually, make that two exceptions. The first is if the craft in question is so ridiculously simple and hilarious, I might do it.
